Racial Guilt and Pride of Power

Leviticus 26:19 gives a prophecy of time when Israel would lose the “pride of its power” due to sin and disobedience of God's laws. This scripture also applies to America and Britain , the modern inheritors of the promises of the God promises to Abraham. We have applied this verse to American actions over the past sixty years in wars that have failed to bring about decisive victory on the order of the victory in World War II. Since then America has not won any major war with the same decisive mandate achieved over the Axis Powers. Korea and Vietnam are classic examples. And this is in spite of America being the single greatest military power during this period.

For three years in Iraq America has been struggling against an insurgency that has not hope of victory against American power. Yet troops and weapons have not been effectively deployed to defeat a far inferior enemy. We are seeing the same  anguish arguing for withdrawal without victory.

Historian Shelby Steel explains this from the perspective of white guilt over past “imperialist sins” in this WSJ piece today. Here are a couple of excerpts:

Anti-Americanism, whether in Europe or on the American left, works by the mechanism of white guilt. It stigmatizes America with all the imperialistic and racist ugliness of the white Western past so that America becomes a kind of straw man, a construct of Western sin. (The Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo prisons were the focus of such stigmatization campaigns.) Once the stigma is in place, one need only be anti-American in order to be “good,” in order to have an automatic moral legitimacy and power in relation to America.

Today words like “power” and “victory” are so stigmatized with Western sin that, in many quarters, it is politically incorrect even to utter them. For the West, “might” can never be right. And victory, when won by the West against a Third World enemy, is always oppression. But, in reality, military victory is also the victory of one idea and the defeat of another. Only American victory in Iraq defeats the idea of Islamic extremism. But in today's atmosphere of Western contrition, it is impolitic to say so.
Steele also says this white guilt is at the heart of American inability to deal with its immigration problem with Mexico. This is the best article I  have seen in recent years to understand how we have lost a “pride of power”.  Read it here.

A Flood of Immorality from Washington!

From http://el-paso.ucg.org/ or call 1-888-886-8632. Please follow this site here.

Sexual immorality is clearly on the rise. As of  this writing, same-sex marriage is legal in 17 countries around the world—with others giving recognition to such unions. In America it is legal in 19 states and the District of Columbia—8 by court decision, 8 by state legislatures and 3 by popular vote.
Legalization has the effect of normalizing the practice and making it more and more acceptable—along with homosexuality in general (see “ Government and the Gay Agenda “). Same-sex couples are also increasingly being allowed to adopt children, further corrupting the younger generation by making homosexuality seem normal.
Yet we should not only consider such sensational matters that garner attention in national debates. Rampant adultery and widespread divorce don't receive much notice. Nor does pornography, premarital sex and cohabitation or, as it used to be called, “living in sin.” So many movies and TV shows depict unmarried couples sleeping or living together that we rarely give it a second thought. That's just the way it is now, so there is rarely the kind of outrage such behavior should provoke.
The truth is that we have been inundated and overwhelmed—and usually we don't even think about it. The slide in this direction has been happening for a long time, but it has greatly sped up in recent years.
Lying and stealing are often the business of political and government leaders these days—as we hear repeated denial of wrongdoing and see our hard-earned money taken or diminished in value to increase the wealth of others. Indeed, lying and stealing have become the business of many businesses—and of the average person. It may bother us on discovering that we are the victim, but it's often an expectation now. And worse, so many of us persist in the same behavior.
Violence is on the rise. Many blame the existence of guns. But the problem is not with the weapons—it's with those wielding them. It's with society as a whole, which has lost its moral underpinnings. Priorities are upside down—and almighty government leads the way.
Here's a relevant story: “Among the 36,000 immigrants whom U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] released from custody last year there were 116 with convictions for homicide, 43 for negligent manslaughter, 14 for voluntary manslaughter and one with a conviction classified by ICE as 'homicide-willful kill-public official-gun' …
“'This would be considered the worst prison break in American history, except it was sanctioned by the president and perpetrated by our own immigration officials,' said Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican” (Stephen Dinan, “Feds Release Hundreds of Immigrant Murderers, Drunk Drivers, Sex-Crime Convicts,” The Washington Times, May 12, 2014, emphasis added).
When we read something like this, it may seem that something is wrong with people's minds—that they are irrational. And indeed they are! In fact, we all are to some degree—and it's a problem that ultimately needs to be dealt with on the inside.

USA: What Have We Become?

From http://el-paso.ucg.org/ or call 1-888-886-8632. Please follow this site here.

Founding father John Adams said that the Constitution of the United States was made for a moral and religious people. That if ever the nation stops being moral and religious, the Constitution would be broken as a whale goes through a net.
He was right. Sadly, we have stopped being a moral and religious people to too great a degree!
Consider the following tragic facts:  54.5 million abortions since Roe v. Wade in 1973 (National Right to Life Fact Sheet). Homosexuality and same-sex marriage is supported by a majority of Americans , half of marriages end in divorce, the highest officers in the nation blatantly lie, laziness is rampant, we have astronomic individual and national debt and there is an overall lack of virtue. These selfish mentalities are the harbingers of the decline of a nation.
Of course, that list doesn’t describe everybody , but in all too many cases it seems the majority of people fall into the description above.

Why are we declining morally?

We have departed from God’s fundamental principles of life.
Our theologians have turned the clear and concrete Ten Commandments into abstractions. The Bible is viewed as full of allegory, story and poetry.
Even as people talk about what would Jesus do (WWJD), hardly anybody actually does what Jesus did do (WDJD).The end result of the latter results in a moral society and the former does not! WWJD leaves the situation open to speculation and convenience.
Whenever mankind departs from the example of Jesus as stated in Scripture, it leads individuals away from the simplicity and clarity of godly principles.
How have we changed from a moral and decent people into an increasingly godless society? How do we biblically justify the murder of millions of babies? We can’t—so we just throw out the Bible.
We change incrementally. A little at a time. Slowly, a tiny step at a time over a long period. Somebody will challenge an established principle with an argument against it.  The thin edge of the wedge of argument and debate is driven in. Everyone has a reason and justification for their position. A war of attrition pursues the goal of changing for the “rights” of non believers. A liberal legal climate encourages loose interpretations of a law and the split of the principle slowly grows wider and wider with each blow on the wedge.
What was once a moral principle firmly established in a mostly religious culture is changed by people pushing for tolerance and compassionate understanding. There is always a reason, always a justification, always a plea. It never ends.  Eventually, people accept the new position and the road to moral decline continues. Things like abortion, divorce, adultery, fornication and “Jimmy has two mommies” become the norm.
The cause of this sad situation is that America is becoming more and more secular.  Fewer and fewer people adhere to Scriptural principles, like the Ten Commandments.  Discipline within churches declines because pastors depend on numbers for their salaries. They don’t hold the line for fear of offending people and a loss of income, and so the moral slump continues.
How do we reverse it? By each individually acknowledging our own faults, sins and shortcomings, and fall on our knees before God in repentance. Return to God and obey Him.
