Current Events & Trends Apocalyptic prophecies drive jihad

The conflict is typically viewed as merely a power struggle between President Bashar al-Assad and his rebel foes, mostly Islamists, as a consequence of the Arab Spring uprisings—with thousands of jihadists swarming in from other countries to help overthrow Assad and promote an Islamic state based on Muslim law. Yet while the Arab Spring was an instigator, it has played into a bigger picture.
Consider that, as Reuters reports, “Sunni and Shi'ite fighters on the frontlines … believe it was all foretold in 7th Century prophecies”—sayings, or hadith, of Muhammad “which refer to the confrontation of two huge Islamic armies in Syria, a great battle near Damascus, and intervention from the north and west of the country” (“Apocalyptic Prophecies Drive Both Sides to Syrian Battle for End of Time,” April 1, 2014).
The report continues: “'If you think all these mujahideen came from across the world to fight Assad, you're mistaken,' said a Sunni Muslim jihadi … 'They are all here as promised by the Prophet. This is the war he promised—it is the Grand Battle,' he told Reuters …
“On the other side, many Shi'ites from Lebanon, Iraq and Iran are drawn to the war because they believe it paves the way for the return of Imam Mahdi—a descendant of the Prophet who vanished 1,000 years ago and who will re-emerge at a time of war to establish global Islamic rule before the end of the world …
“Both sides emphasize the ultimate goal of establishing an Islamic state which will rule the world before total chaos … Hadith on both sides mention Syria as a main battlefield, naming cities and towns where blood will be spilled. Hundreds of thousands of people will be killed. The whole region will be shaken from the Arabian Peninsula to Iraq, Iran and Jerusalem, according to some texts. Saudi Arabia will collapse. Almost every country in the Middle East will face unrest. One statement says 'blood will reach knee-level.'
“A widely circulated hadith attributed to Mohammad says Sham, or Syria [actually the broader Levant], is [Allah's] favored land. Asked where the next jihad will be, he replies: 'Go for Sham, and if you can't, go for Yemen … (though) [Allah] has guaranteed me Sham and its people.'”
These are widely held motivations for the fighting in Syria. “Although some Sunni and Shi'ite clerics are privately skeptical of the religious justifications for the war, few in the region express such reservations in public for fear of being misinterpreted as doubters of the prophecies.” (Source: Reuters.)

In Brief... World News Review Saudi Arabia: Trouble Taming the Tiger

From http://el-paso.ucg.org/ or call 1-888-886-8632. Please follow this site here.

For decades, Saudi school children have been taught anti-Semitic and anti-American propaganda. It was no fluke that 15 of the 19 9/11 terrorists were Saudi Arabian. A recently released Saudi intelligence poll shows that Osama bin Laden could have had thousands more volunteers. Taken just weeks after 9/11, the survey found that 95 percent of Saudi Arabians from ages 25 to 41—with college educations—supported the terrorist.
Clearly, the long-held premise that terrorists are poor and uneducated is no longer true.
Even Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah recently let slip an anti-Semitic remark, saying in a news conference after a terrorist attack on a Saudi oil refinery that the Jews were to blame. MSNBC reported the crown prince's statement: “Zionism is behind it. It has become clear now. It has become clear to us. I don't say, I mean… It is not 100 percent, but 95 percent that the Zionist hands are behind what happened.”
The Saudi interior minister followed with this absurd claim: “Al-Qaeda is backed by Israel and Zionism” (Andrew L. Jaffee, “Saudis Blame Jews for Terror,” June 19, 2004).
Coming from average citizens, these statements would be unsettling. Coming from the head of the government and a chief aide, they are deeply disturbing.
Anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism were undoubtedly in keeping with the thinking of the Arab peoples of the 1950s. It seems natural for poor people to hate the prosperous. Slandering others—especially Jews—undoubtedly seemed harmless. Strengthening nationalism through denigrating other nations that were traditionally unpopular was the easy way, and the Saudi government chose the easy way.
It allowed, encouraged and funded the radical Islamist Wahhabi sect. When the sect evolved into a threat to the sprawling self-indulgent Saudi royal family, the government continued funding the Wahhabis as virtual protection money. “We will fund you to take your radical actions to other countries; just leave Saudi Arabia alone” seems to have been the understanding.
For the very same terrorist attack that Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah blamed the Jews on Saudi TV, the Saudi government told the Western press that the culprits were al-Qaeda: One message for the folks at home; another for the West. That is, the government has wanted it both ways: anti- and pro-American.
In this cozy little world, back in 1990 Osama bin Laden (living in Saudi Arabia at the time) actually offered his forces to the royal family to help it remove Saddam Hussein's invading troops from Kuwait.
Throughout the decades of teaching little children to hate the United States and Israel—throughout the decades of funding radical Islamic ideas—Saudi Arabia was also an ally of the United States. It made that plain to all Arabs by allowing a U.S. base on its soil in the 1991 Gulf War.
Now the tiger has returned home to attack its keeper. The Saudi's duplicity began to backfire after the United States pressured the kingdom to expel bin Laden in 1994. His al-Qaeda terrorists are now attacking Saudi Arabia from within.
So, we have a truly bizarre phenomenon: Anti-Semitic, anti-American terrorists are attacking Saudi Arabia for being pro-America and therefore pro-Israel, while the Saudi government officials blame the Jews (and therefore America) for the terrorists' attacks.
The Saudis are sitting on a ticking bomb—a nation of people schooled in prejudice and terrorists who no longer honor their protection money. Increasing unemployment and decreasing government handouts make the nation ripe for revolution.

Mumbai Attacks Highlight Threat from Radical Islam

From http://el-paso.ucg.org/ or call 1-888-886-8632. Please follow this site here.

From WNP Senior Writer Melvin Rhodes:

After the train bombings in the Indian city of Mumbai (formerly Bombay) on July 11th,  there was fairly extensive reporting on the terror attacks in the Lansing State Journal, the daily newspaper that serves the state capital of Michigan.   The chief suspects, according to the Associated Press article, were “Kashmiri separatists”.

Not once were the words “Moslem” or “Islamic” mentioned, in keeping with the tenets of political correctness which still maintain that all religions are equally valid and that Islam is really a religion of peace!  However, Kashmiri separatists are all Moslems, fighting to break away from predominantly Hindu India and unite with the Islamic nation of Pakistan.  At the same time, it should be noted that a number of trains were blown up in Mumbai, all within eleven minutes.  Simultaneous attacks are a trademark of al-Qaeda.  These attacks on the rapid transit system in India's financial capital are very similar to previous attacks in Madrid in 2004 and in London in 2005.

Following the 7/11 attacks, security was heightened in New York, America's financial capital.  It appears increasingly as if al-Qaeda is targeting financial centers in an attempt to bring down the western financial system.  Mumbai, the financial center at the heart of one of the world's fastest growing economies, was the most likely target in India for this reason.  The bombings all took place in the rush hour, again copying those in Madrid and London.  The bombings will likely turn out to be the responsibility of a local al-Qaeda affiliate, as Muslim militants around the world increasingly work together to achieve the common goal of Islamic domination.

The bombings in Mumbai were just one incident that hit the headlines for one day in what is increasingly being called “The Long War”, a conflict seemingly without end.

Increasingly, it appears that the radical followers of Islam are winning against a western world that is more and more divided, both between the various governments and also within the individual countries themselves.

It should be clear to all that the threat from radical Islam is growing.  It should also be noted that the focus of worldwide terrorism does seem to be on financial targets like London, New York and Mumbai, in a clear attempt to destroy confidence, upon which the western economic system is built.
